IMD Issues Heatwave Warning for Telangana This Week

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heatwave alert for parts of Telangana for the next seven days.

The Hyderabad Meteorological Centre has predicted a gradual rise of 2-3 degrees Celsius in maximum temperatures across Telangana over the next three days.

According to the forecast, some districts may witness temperatures crossing 45 degrees Celsius between May 19 and May 24.

Heatwave conditions are likely to prevail in isolated areas of Adilabad, Komuram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Jagtial, and Rajanna Sircilla districts on May 18, with temperatures expected to exceed 45 degrees Celsius.

Several parts of Telangana also experienced heatwave conditions on Sunday.

Data from the Telangana Development Planning Society showed that the highest temperature of 45.7 degrees Celsius was recorded in Bheemgal mandal of Nizamabad district, while Mosra mandal in the same district recorded 45.5 degrees Celsius.

In Nirmal district, Dasturabad recorded a maximum temperature of 45.3 degrees Celsius, while Tanur witnessed 45.1 degrees Celsius.

Kollur in Banswada mandal of Kamareddy district recorded a maximum temperature of 45.2 degrees Celsius.

Out of the 33 districts in Telangana, 16 districts recorded temperatures of 42 degrees Celsius or above.

The state’s average maximum temperature stood at 40.8 degrees Celsius.

Within the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) limits, the average maximum temperature was recorded at 40.4 degrees Celsius, with Goshamahal circle registering the highest temperature at 42.3 degrees Celsius.

Following the IMD warning, Director of Public Health and Family Welfare Dr. B. Ravinder Nayak issued a public advisory outlining precautions and safety measures to protect people from heatwave conditions.

The government has also made arrangements at public health facilities, including special beds, IV fluids, essential medicines, and ORS sachets distributed through ANMs, ASHAs, and Anganwadi workers to tackle any heat-related emergencies.
