World Patient Safety Day: Building Safer Healthcare Together

World Patient Safety Day, observed every year on 17th September, is a global initiative led by the World Health Organisation (WHO) to raise awareness and drive collective action towards ensuring safer healthcare for all.

The day emphasises the importance of prioritising patient safety as a cornerstone of healthcare delivery, fostering a culture of transparency, learning, and accountability.

It brings together patients, healthcare professionals, policymakers, and communities to advocate for stronger systems, highlight challenges, and promote solutions that reduce risks and prevent avoidable harm in medical care.

Dr Shuchin Bajaj, Founder-Director, Ujala Cygnus, said, “Hospital infrastructure is not merely about construction; it is a critical determinant of patient safety, recovery, and trust in the healthcare system. Thoughtfully designed facilities can minimise infections, reduce medical errors, and create safer environments for patients and staff alike.

With India’s progress in maternal and child health, as well as digital healthcare adoption, it is clear that infrastructure and innovation must go hand in hand. Strengthening rural healthcare access, ensuring robust infection control, and investing in critical care capacities are no longer optional, they are essential.

Building resilient, patient-centric hospitals today will define the quality and equity of healthcare delivery for generations to come.”

Mr Madhusudhan HK, Country Head, Aerolase, said, “With the growing demand for advanced skin treatments, the responsibility of ensuring patient safety has never been greater. In dermatology, safety is not only about visible results but also about protecting the long-term health and confidence of patients.

Traditionally, many skin treatments involved invasive procedures that carried risks of side effects, pain, and extended downtime. Over the years, however, technology has transformed this landscape, and non-invasive laser systems have emerged as a safer, more effective alternative.

Aerolase has been at the forefront of this innovation with its FDA-approved devices that are safe for all skin types, including darker and Indian skin tones.

Our unique handpiece design ensures a completely contactless treatment, while the advanced 650-microsecond technology delivers higher efficacy without harming your skin, meaning no pain and no downtime for the patient.

These innovations highlight how technology can bring both results and reassurance together. On National Patient Safety Day, we urge the industry to adopt practices and technologies that place patient well-being first. At Aerolase, this commitment drives everything we do, ensuring that progress in skin health is always built on a foundation of trust and safety.

Mr Avinash Ojha, MD, RG Hospitals, said, “World Patient Safety Day serves as an important reminder that safe healthcare is a fundamental right for every individual who entrusts us with their well-being.

Patient safety goes beyond protocols and checklists; it is about creating an environment where every patient feels genuinely cared for, heard, and protected.

While medical science advances rapidly, the core elements of healthcare remain empathy, vigilance, and responsibility. At RG Hospital, we believe that safety is a collective responsibility shared not only by doctors, nurses, and support staff but also by patients and their families.

On this day, as we reflect on our ongoing commitment, let us renew our dedication to building a patient-centric culture where their safety is our unwavering focus.”
