New Delhi: Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi was admitted to Delhi’s Sir Ganga Ram Hospital late on Sunday due to a stomach-related issue. The hospital confirmed on Monday that she is currently stable and under observation.
In an official statement, Dr. Ajay Swaroop, Chairman of Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, said, “Sonia Gandhi was admitted to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital at 9:00 PM on 15th June, under the Department of Surgical Gastroenterology for a stomach-related issue. She is currently stable, and the doctors are closely monitoring her health.”
The 78-year-old leader is being treated by the hospital’s Gastroenterology department. This is her second hospitalisation in June.
On June 7, Sonia Gandhi visited the Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) Hospital in Shimla after experiencing restlessness. She underwent an MRI scan, and doctors found her blood pressure to be slightly above normal. However, her condition was reported as stable.
Naresh Chauhan, principal advisor (media) to Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, had said she was taken for a routine check-up due to minor health concerns. Following the news, Chief Minister Sukhu ended his visit to Una and returned to Shimla.
Earlier in February this year, Sonia Gandhi was briefly hospitalised at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital for a similar stomach-related issue. She was discharged after a day under the care of a gastroenterology specialist.
In 2022, Gandhi had travelled to the United States for a long-postponed medical check-up. She was accompanied by her son, Rahul Gandhi, and missed much of the Monsoon Session of Parliament during that period. Before leaving for the US, she had approved major organisational changes in the Congress party.
Congress leader Randeep Surjewala had shared news of her US visit and thanked well-wishers for their support.
Sonia Gandhi continues to be monitored closely, and further updates on her condition are awaited.
