AIIMS Bhopal Launches Long-Term Care Clinic for Pediatric Cancer Survivors

Bhopal: AIIMS Bhopal has taken a big step forward in supporting child cancer survivors by launching a special clinic called the ACT Clinic (After Completion of Therapy). This new facility is focused on helping children who have finished cancer treatment continue their recovery in a healthy and supportive environment.

The ACT Clinic was officially opened in the pediatric ward and is part of AIIMS Bhopal’s mission to improve long-term care for children who have battled cancer. According to AIIMS Bhopal Executive Director Dr. Ajay Singh, around 80% of children diagnosed with cancer today survive and go on to live normal, healthy lives—especially when they receive proper treatment at the right time.

AIIMS Bhopal already offers complete cancer care services for children, including diagnosis, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and surgery. Many young patients have completed their treatments and are now living well. However, Dr. Singh stressed that recovery doesn’t stop once treatment ends.

"Even after beating cancer, some children may face long-term health issues," he said. These may include problems with growth, hormone levels, heart function, neurological development, emotional health, and more.

To help manage these challenges, the ACT Clinic brings together a team of specialists, including a pediatric oncologist, endocrinologist, cardiologist, neurodevelopment expert, psycho-oncologist, nutritionist, physiotherapist, social worker, and even a teacher. This team approach ensures children receive all-around care that looks after both their physical and emotional well-being.

The clinic will be coordinated by the Department of Anatomy and supported by AIIMS Bhopal’s dedicated team of doctors and medical staff.

On the same day, Dr. Singh also inaugurated a modern playroom in the pediatric ward. Supported by Cankids-Kidscan, an NGO focused on childhood cancer care, this playroom will offer a joyful space for children undergoing treatment, helping lift their spirits during tough times.

“Healing is more than just medicine. It’s about restoring hope, strength, and joy,” Dr. Singh said. “Our ACT Clinic and the playroom reflect our commitment to caring for children in every possible way.”
