AIIMS to Host Aesthetic Surgery Update 2026: Rising Demand, Safety & Ethics in Focus

All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) will host the Aesthetic Surgery Update 2026, a three-day academic event from April 24 to 26, bringing together over 280 plastic surgeons from India and neighbouring countries.

The announcement was made during a press conference held on April 23 at the Burns and Plastic Surgery Block of AIIMS, New Delhi.

Organised by the Department of Plastic, Reconstructive & Burns Surgery, the conference will focus on the latest advancements in aesthetic procedures, including both surgical and non-surgical techniques such as hair transplantation, liposuction, facelift, rhinoplasty, laser treatments, botulinum toxin, and dermal fillers.

Highlighting the growing demand, Prof. Maneesh Singhal, Head of Department, said that aesthetic surgery procedures in India have seen a steady rise, with around 1.2 million procedures performed

in 2024, and projections indicating this could increase to 1.5 million in 2025.

He also noted that India now ranks 6th globally in aesthetic surgery, but emphasised the need for ensuring safety, ethical practices, and proper training of professionals.

Dr. Shivangi Saha, Assistant Professor, pointed out that the demand for aesthetic procedures cuts across all age groups and social strata. She stressed that such procedures are not just about appearance but also significantly impact confidence, mental well-being, and social opportunities.

AIIMS, along with other premier institutions like AIIMS Patna, AIIMS Bhubaneswar, and PGI Chandigarh, is actively working towards structured training and promoting safe practices in this rapidly expanding field.
