More than 3,100 people donated blood during a mega voluntary blood donation drive organised in Rohini, New Delhi, where ShardaCare - Healthcity partnered with Laxmi Taru Foundation as the healthcare partner. The event witnessed the participation of around 10,000 people and aimed to promote voluntary blood donation while strengthening blood availability for patients in need.
Blood donation plays a vital role in healthcare, as a single unit of donated blood can help multiple patients. It is essential for emergency and trauma care, major surgeries, maternal healthcare, organ transplants and the treatment of several serious medical conditions.
Doctors highlight the importance of voluntary blood donation
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Harprit Singh, Head, Transfusion Medicine & Blood Bank, ShardaCare Healthcity, said that voluntary blood donors remain the backbone of every healthcare system because blood cannot be manufactured. "Every unit of blood donated has the potential to save multiple lives. Large-scale donation initiatives help ensure hospitals are adequately prepared to manage emergencies and provide timely care to patients requiring life-saving transfusions," he said.
The hospital also noted that regular voluntary blood donation by eligible individuals may help maintain healthy iron levels, stimulate the production of fresh blood cells and contribute to overall well-being, while helping save the lives of patients in need.
Critical support for patients with blood disorders
Highlighting the importance of blood donation for patients undergoing advanced treatments, Dr. Pawan Kumar Singh, Vice Chairman – Haemato-Oncology & Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT), ShardaCare – Healthcity, said that patients undergoing Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) and those suffering from blood disorders often require repeated blood and platelet transfusions during their treatment.

Helmets distributed to blood donors
As part of the initiative, ShardaCare – Healthcity distributed complimentary ISI-marked helmets to every voluntary blood donor. According to the hospital, the initiative was aimed at reinforcing the message that while blood donation helps save lives, road safety helps protect them. The organisers said the campaign reflects the hospital's commitment to preventive healthcare, community well-being and public health initiatives beyond clinical care.
Over 250 organisations joined the initiative
The blood donation drive received support from more than 250 NGOs and organisations, including Thalassemics India, Rotary Club, Lions Club, and DATRI Foundation, which participated in encouraging voluntary blood donation and community engagement.
